Lil Wayne just claimed Black Lives Matter has nothing to do with him because he is ‘rich’

Superstar rapper Lil Wayne has been slammed as ‘ridiculous and uninformed’ after admitting during a Night line interview that he didn’t believe the Black Lives Matter had anything to do with him because he is rich.
He began the interview by claiming that the name of the movement ‘just sounds weird’, adding: ‘It’s not a name, it’s not “whatever, whatever”, it’s somebody got shot by a policeman for a f****d up reason.’
He then went on to say: ‘I am a young black rich m****r f*****, if that don’t let you know that America understand black m****r f*****g matter these days, I don’t know what is.’

His comments led to disappointment from fans and activists, especially as several of his most popular tracks – including 2006’s Georgia… Bush and last year’s My Heart Races On – have touched upon the issues of racism in a country whose Jim Crow laws remained in place until 1965 and in the following decades has felt a growing isolation among communities.
However some fans back Lil Wayne with one calling him ‘misunderstood’ and another suggesting that ‘everybody don’t have to share the same opinion and experiences’.

What is the Black Lives Matter movement?

A national organization working for the validity of Black life, #BlackLivesMatter was created in 2012 after Trayvon Martin’s murderer, George Zimmerman, was acquitted for his crime, and dead 17-year old Trayvon was posthumously placed on trial for his own murder.
#BlackLivesMatter is working for a world where Black lives are no longer systematically and intentionally targeted for demise.
We affirm our contributions to this society, our humanity, and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression.
We have put our sweat equity and love for Black people into creating a political project–taking the hashtag off of social media and into the streets.
The call for Black lives to matter is a rallying cry for ALL Black lives striving for liberation.

In October Weezy also courted controversy when he suggested that there was no such thing as racism anymore because white music fans attended his concerts.
Speaking to Fox Sports 1 show Undisputed he said that the broader love for rap music was ‘a message that there’s clearly no such thing as racism’ and that he had ‘never dealt with racism’.
He later clarified his remarks by telling PA that it had been a white police officer who saved his life after he accidentally shot himself at the age of 12: ‘Yeah, he was a cop, and my life was saved by a white man. I don’t know what racism is.’
