Daniel Sturridge’s first league goal of the season breaks Liverpool record

Strurridge scores milestone goal that sets new Liverpool record

Daniel Sturridge’s goal during Liverpool’s 4-1 thumping of Stoke has seen them set a club record.
The England international’s strike, which he was gifted after a poor backpass from Ryan Shawcross, saw Jurgen Klopp’s men net their 86th league goal of 2016.

Incredibly, that total is more than any other Liverpool team has managed in the club’s history.
Their previous best effort of 85 league goals was racked up in 1989 – a record that has stood since.
Giannelli Imbula’s own goal saw them match that total, but Sturridge’s first league goal of the season broke it.
Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana were also on the scoresheet as Liverpool ran riot at Anfield.
And with one more match to go in 2016, against Manchester City, Klopp will hope to extend that record further…
