To most people looking on, Carleigh Hager had it all.
She had met her ‘Prince Charming’, and regularly posted loved up photos of the two of them together online.
But behind closed doors, nursing assistant Carleigh was allegedly
submitted to horrific abuse at the hands of the man who claimed to love
her.
The rest of the world only suspected when Ryan Cameron, 26, was accused of attacking her so badly she was sent to hospital, where doctors had to stitch her tongue back into her mouth after he ripped it out with his fingers and bit off part of her ear.
She thought she was going to die after the attack, she said, when her partner allegedly choked the blood back into her mouth so she was unable to breath.

‘Immediately started pouring blood and I freaked out and was
screaming even harder and he tried to suffocate me with my own blood,’
Carleigh told WTHR. ‘He put his hand right here and plugged my nose and I couldn’t breathe.’
She said some of their friends were even with them when Ryan began to berate her. ‘He proceeded to tell his friends if they ever wanted to f*ck me, here was their opportunity,’ Carleigh told the channel.
He had been abusive in the past, Carleigh said, but when she tried to leave things would get even worse.
‘I tried several times to break up with him and he would threaten my dog’s life,’ she said. ‘I was so embarrassed to tell my family because I had started a life with him.’
She said that her happy image on Facebook was just an illusion, telling WTHR that ‘social media is not everything you think’.
But after taking back control of her life, Carleigh said she wanted to speak out to help anyone else who could be in a similar position.
‘Don’t ever let them tell you that you’re nothing, That you have nowhere to go,’ she said. ‘Don’t let them take your spirits away from you and tell you that you’re not pretty, that you can’t do anything.
‘Hang out with your friends. Do anything in this world. ‘Cause that’s not a man. That’s not somebody who loves you.’
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with her recovery.
