Police are hunting a man who hung a dog by the lead and swung it against the wall of a train.
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier was so frightened it defecated on the seat during the service from Braintree to Witham, on October 10.
Staff cancelled the Essex train after finding excrement in the carriage and after reviewing CCTV they saw the dog had been abused.
The British Transport Police (BTP) have now released CCTV images of a man they want to identify, who was travelling with the dog at around 10.30pm.
‘This was an unbelievably shocking act of cruelty,’ said investigating officer Sergeant Paul Thompson.
‘No animal should ever be subjected to such punishment and I am determined to trace the man responsible.
‘Clearly this animal was frightened for its life as he emptied his bowls on the seat and train carriage.’
